Ensal Is an Enteric Mixture for the Oral Treatment of Bacterial Infections of the Gastro-intestinal Tract in Cats and Dogs
Phthalylsulfathiazole Is a Sparingly Soluble Sulfonamide Which Is Poorly Absorbed From the Gastrointestinal Tract. It Has Very Low Toxicity and the Small Amounts Which Are Absorbed Are Rapidly Excreted in the Urine. It Is Bacteriostatic to a Number of Organisms Which Cause Enteric Infections.
Kaolin Is of Value in the Symptomatic Treatment of Enteritis and Allied Conditions as It Absorbs Toxic Substances From the Alimentary Tract and Increases the Bulk of the Faeces.
Hyoscine Methobromide Has an Anticholinergic Action Which Serves as an Antispasmodic and Helps to Suppress Gastric Secretion.
Electrolytes Have Been Included in the Formulation to Counteract the Losses of Potassium, Sodium and Chloride Ions Caused by Diarrhoea and Increased Permeability of the Colonic Mucosa.
